This is not so much a remake of the books as a kind of sequal, a third "book" if you will, occurring 12 and a half years exactly later.

It's also a Tim Burton movie...

Oh, and Johnny Depp gets the lines because he's a big star and Mia Whatsahooha ain't.

Why are none of these statements reassuring to me?

So, not that I've bothered to find the info, but this Alice in Wonderland movie is a "sequel" to the books?  That might explain why nothing in the trailer was from either book.  hmm.  So does two of my favorite books + one of my favorite directors = a movie I will like?
I was scared by the trailer... too many computer warped people.  Like, their heads all stretched out & stuff.  ew.

This is Tim Burton we're talking about here.  It isn't going to be a faithful re-creation of anything.

I saw the trailer for Alice yesterday in IMAX 3D before Avatar.  Whoa!  I'm very excited to see this.

I should also point out that there have been about a million movie and TV versions of Alice in Wonderland made and not one of them faithfully follows the text.  So, in a way, Tim Burton is upholding tradition.

I was never thinking it'd be a faithful representation of the text.  I love most of the movies out there- even the one that was aired every year in the 80's that gave me annual nightmares because of the baby that turned into a pig.
I think a "sequel" could be fun.  We all liked that computer game, right?  The fact that they made Helena Bonham Carter even creepier looking by shrinking her & stretching her head bothers me.  She will replace my pig-baby nightmares.

Yeah, loathe as I am to admit it, having seen the trailer in 3D now, I totally acknowledge that Alice In Wonderland was MADE for 3D! Let's hope it lives up to it's potential.
